Shelley Thomas

Media and Communications Manager

Shelley is a media and communications specialist with a background in print journalism, writing for newspapers and magazines across Australia and in Hong Kong and London. She cut her teeth as a journalist onĀ The Courier-MailĀ in Brisbane during the Fitzgerald Inquiry era.

After a diverse career working across private, not-for-profit and government sectors, Shelley found her passion for science communication through key roles with ARC Centre of Excellence/Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, and Queensland AI Hub.

She has also worked in senior communications positions for the Canadian High Commission in London; Queensland Crime and Misconduct Commission (now CCC); and Tourism and Events Queensland.

Shelley is a conservationist and spent four years in the Galapagos Islands leading projects with WildAid. She believes everyone has a story to tell and was arguably the only kid in Primary School to take notes during Show & Tell. Now, as then, intrigued and inspired by the stories of others.

Shelley holds a Bachelor of Arts (double major in journalism and politics) from The University of Queensland. She lives on the Sunshine Coast.
