Physics in National Science Week: the story behind the Higgs Boson and much more post image

From Rob Robinson, President of the Australian Institute of Physics

It’s that time again! National Science Week officially kicks off on Saturday and will run through to 18 August, with almost 800 events being held across Australia. This special bulletin brings you the physics highlights from National Science Week.

Elisabetta Barberio will be bringing physics to the public and school students in with AIP Women in Physics lectures being held in Adelaide, Launceston and Hobart. This is your chance to find out the real story behind the headlines: where does mass come from, and what can the Higgs Boson, the subatomic particle found by the Large Hadron Collider last year, tell us about this question.

For those of you in South Australia, at 5pm tomorrow (Friday 9 August) the AIP’s Tanya Monro is the guest speaker at the South Australian National Science Week launch. And Grace Portolesi, the South Australian Minister for Science and Information Economy, will present the AIP SA Branch Excellence in Physics Teaching award. I look forward to letting you know who the recipient is in my next bulletin.

Follow the links below to find out more about the selected events, and look for the AIP logo to see the events that the AIP is involved with.AIPicon You can view the full Science Week program at http://www.scienceweek.net.au, and you will also find plenty of great events after the 18 August too.

Kind regards,

Rob Robinson

AIP President
