THE WCSFP FAMILY TREE MEETS THE HUMAN GENOGRAPHIC PROJECT

Congress organizers are thrilled to announce that scientist, author and documentary filmmaker Spencer Wells has been confirmed as a guest speaker at this year’s event. National Geographic’s Explorer-in-Residence, Spencer will share with us the latest extraordinary findings from The Genographic Project.

Hundreds of thousands of participants from around the world – including a number of WCSFP luminaries – have had their cheeks swabbed and their DNA analyzed in the bid to reveal the genetic roots and the migratory history of everyone on earth. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to learn what drove our ancestors to make so many different journeys, and to find out which particular branches of the human migration tree our WCSFP luminaries have descended from.

Want to have your own DNA analyzed and migratory history revealed? Register for this year’s event before Friday, October 2, and have your name entered into a draw for the chance to discover your deep ancestry at the 2009 Congress!

LAUNCH EVENTS A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS

Organizers would like to thank Film Victoria and Screen Australia for hosting spectacular launch events in Melbourne and Sydney last week. Attendees were given a sneak preview of the Congress program and the chance to network and discuss various ways to participate. At the Melbourne launch, a panel of scientists pitched their work to many of the Victoria-based producers in the room. The two launch events invoked the spirit of the WCSFP, generating excitement about the Congress’ impending arrival in Australia.

NHK JOINS CONGRESS AS A GOLD SPONSOR

The WCSFP welcomes back long-time partner NHK as a Gold Sponsor of this year’s Congress. Japan’s sole public broadcaster, NHK operates five television channels that reach 47 million households, and continually undertakes new international co-production projects.
